Beschreibung

Besprechungen / Reviews

"... The pieces in A minor and D minor are ... for two bass viols and continuo, but are anonymous in the Durham manuscript. In British Library, Add. Ms 31430 they are attributed to Jenkins and appear in the Society's Index as VdGS nos. 51-54, 56-59. Incidentally the Index lists a fragment of one of the viol parts in a Kassel manuscript, a fact not noticed by the editors. The editors acknowledge the help of Andrew Ashbee and others in coming to the conclusion that the pieces are actually by Nicolai. I agree: they share many turns of phrase and harmony with the attributed works and, like them, are fine pieces of medium difficulty, well worth playing...."
